Watershed Hydrology

The Battle Watershed, located in Idaho, covers an area of approximately 115 square miles. Hydrologically, it is characterized by a combination of surface water and groundwater sources. The watershed is often subject to heavy snowpack accumulation during the winter months, which is then released in the spring and summer as snowmelt runoff. This contributes to the high water yield of the watershed. The surface water in the watershed is primarily used for agricultural irrigation purposes. Reservoirs within the watershed store water for later use. Interestingly, climatic data shows that the Battle Watershed has experienced a trend of decreasing snowpack and earlier snowmelt over the past several decades, likely due to climate change. This trend may have implications for water availability and management in the region in the future.
