Watershed Hydrology

The Greybull Watershed (HUC 10080009) is located in the state of Wyoming and covers an area of approximately 1,300 square miles. The hydrology of the watershed is characterized by a network of small streams that ultimately drain into the Greybull River. The watershed receives most of its precipitation in the form of snow, which accumulates in the winter months and melts in the spring, providing a reliable source of surface water for the region. The snowpack in the area is closely monitored by the US Geological Survey and is an important indicator of water availability for agriculture and other uses. The watershed is home to several reservoirs, which are used for irrigation, recreation, and drinking water supply. Interesting climatic facts and trends for the region include periodic droughts and fluctuations in snowpack and precipitation patterns, which can have significant impacts on water resources and the local economy.
