North Fork Shoshone

Watershed Hydrology

The North Fork Shoshone Watershed is located in northwestern Wyoming and covers an area of 1,655 square miles. The watershed is characterized by its rugged terrain and diverse hydrology, which includes small streams, large rivers, and numerous lakes and reservoirs. The area receives significant snowfall during the winter months, which contributes to the region's substantial snowpack. This snowpack serves as an important source of water for the watershed's surface water and reservoirs, which provide irrigation and domestic water supply to the surrounding communities. The watershed is also home to a variety of fish and wildlife species, including the Yellowstone cutthroat trout and the grizzly bear. Recent climate trends in the area have shown an increase in average temperatures, a decrease in winter snowpack, and more frequent extreme weather events.
