Lower Powder

Watershed Hydrology

The Lower Powder Watershed, HUC 10090209, is located in northeastern Oregon and covers an area of approximately 1,422 square miles. The watershed is characterized by a semi-arid climate with hot, dry summers and cold winters. The hydrology of the watershed is dominated by the Powder River, which is the primary source of surface water. The region receives significant snowpack during the winter months, which contributes to the water supply in the spring and summer. The Powder River Basin is also an important source of irrigation water for agriculture. The watershed contains several reservoirs, including Phillips Reservoir, which provides drinking water for the city of Baker City. Additionally, the region has experienced a warming trend over the last several decades, leading to earlier snowmelt and changes in the timing and availability of water resources.
