Watershed Hydrology

The South Fork Grand Watershed (HUC 10130302) is located in north-central Colorado and covers an area of approximately 652 square miles. The watershed is characterized by high elevations, steep slopes, and diverse topography that includes mountains, valleys, and plateaus. The hydrology of the watershed is dominated by snowmelt and precipitation, which contribute to the flow of the South Fork of the Colorado River, a major tributary of the Colorado River. The watershed is home to several reservoirs, including the Shadow Mountain Reservoir and the Grand Lake, which are important sources of water for agriculture, municipal, and recreational activities. The watershed experiences cold and snowy winters, with an average snowpack of 100 inches, and warm and dry summers with an average temperature of 67 degrees Fahrenheit.
