Watershed Hydrology

The Little Medicine Bow Watershed (HUC 10180005) is a small watershed encompassing approximately 128 square miles in south-central Wyoming. The watershed is characterized by rugged topography, with elevations ranging from 7,000 to 10,000 feet above sea level. The hydrology of the watershed is dominated by snowmelt runoff, with the majority of streamflow occurring in the late spring and early summer. Snowpack in the watershed is highly variable from year to year, but typically peaks in late March to early April. Surface water in the watershed is primarily found in small streams and creeks, with no major reservoirs present. Water quality in the watershed is generally good, with low levels of contaminants present. Climatic trends in the watershed suggest that temperatures are increasing and precipitation is becoming more variable, with more frequent drought conditions observed in recent years.
