Watershed Hydrology

The Beaver Watershed (HUC 10250014) encompasses 1,131 square miles in northwest Arkansas. It is primarily fed by precipitation, with intermittent streams and tributaries providing additional flow. The watershed is characterized by a humid subtropical climate with hot summers and mild winters. The area receives about 44 inches of precipitation annually, with the majority falling in the spring and early summer. The watershed is home to Beaver Lake, a reservoir that provides drinking water to over 400,000 people. The lake is subject to nutrient pollution from urban and agricultural runoff. In recent years, the watershed has experienced more frequent and intense precipitation events, leading to increased flooding and erosion. The area is also vulnerable to droughts during the summer months. Conservation efforts, including land use management and water quality monitoring, are ongoing to protect the Beaver Watershed and its resources.
