Watershed Hydrology

The Middle Neosho Watershed (HUC 11070205) covers an area of approximately 2,562 square miles and is located in southeastern Kansas. The hydrology of the watershed is primarily influenced by the Neosho River, which flows through the region. The watershed experiences a humid subtropical climate with hot summers and cold winters. Significant snowpack is not typically observed in the region due to its location in the southern United States. Surface water resources in the watershed include numerous lakes and streams, with the John Redmond Reservoir being the largest body of water. Reservoir constituents include catfish, crappie, and bass, as well as various bird species. Interesting climatic trends in the region include an increase in extreme weather events, such as heavy rainfall and flooding, which may have adverse impacts on the local ecosystem and water resources.
