Watershed Hydrology

The Saline Bayou Watershed (HUC 11140208) encompasses approximately 703 square miles in northwest Louisiana. It is a part of the Red River Basin and is characterized by flat topography and a humid subtropical climate. The watershed receives an average of 54 inches of precipitation annually, with the majority falling from March through May. The area is not typically affected by significant snowpack. The Saline Bayou is the primary surface water feature in the watershed, and it eventually flows into the Red River. There are several reservoirs within the watershed, including Lake Nantachie and Saline Lake. Water quality in the Saline Bayou has been impacted by agricultural runoff and other sources of pollution. Climate trends in the area include increasing temperatures and more variable precipitation patterns.
