Caddo Lake

Watershed Hydrology

The Caddo Lake Watershed, located in northeast Texas and northwest Louisiana, spans over 700,000 acres and supports diverse ecosystems such as wetlands, forests, and grasslands. The hydrology of the watershed is dominated by the Big Cypress Bayou, which meanders through the region and provides the primary source of surface water for the area. The watershed experiences a humid subtropical climate with hot summers and mild winters, and typically receives around 50 inches of rainfall annually. Interesting climatic facts include occasional winter precipitation in the form of sleet or freezing rain, and the potential for severe thunderstorms and tornadoes in the spring and summer months. The watershed is also home to several large reservoirs, including Lake Caddo and Lake O' the Pines, which provide important recreational opportunities and serve as a source of drinking water for nearby communities.
