Lower Angelina

Watershed Hydrology

The Lower Angelina Watershed (HUC 12020005) covers an area of 1,934 square miles in the southeastern part of Texas. The hydrology of this watershed is dominated by the Angelina River, which is a major tributary to the Neches River. The watershed receives an average annual rainfall of 50 inches, and the area experiences both floods and droughts. The watershed is characterized by a humid subtropical climate with hot summers and mild winters. The area receives occasional snowfall, but it is not a significant source of water. Surface water in the watershed is used for agricultural, industrial, and municipal purposes, and the water quality is impacted by a variety of constituents, including nutrients, sediment, and bacteria. The watershed also contains several reservoirs, including Lake Sam Rayburn, which is a popular recreational destination.
