Double Moutain Fork Brazos

Watershed Hydrology

The Double Mountain Fork Brazos watershed covers an area of approximately 2,600 square miles in West Texas. The hydrology of the area is dominated by the Double Mountain Fork and Salt Fork Brazos Rivers, which flow through the region. The region experiences a semi-arid climate, with hot summers and mild winters. Snowpack is generally minimal in the area, with occasional snowfalls during the winter months. Surface water in the region is limited, with the majority of the water supply coming from underground aquifers. There are several reservoirs in the watershed, including the Lake Alan Henry Reservoir, which provides drinking water to the city of Lubbock. Interesting climatic trends in the area include increasing temperatures and decreasing precipitation over the past few decades, which has led to concerns over water availability in the region.
