Watershed Hydrology

The Upper San Antonio Watershed (HUC 12100301) covers approximately 344 square miles in southwestern Colorado. The watershed is fed by snowpack from the San Juan Mountains, and is characterized by steep terrain and high elevations. The area receives an average of 200 inches of snowfall per year, which provides important water resources for the region. The watershed is home to several reservoirs, including Vallecito Reservoir, which serves as a major source of water for the surrounding communities. The reservoir is also an important recreational resource, offering boating, fishing, and camping opportunities. The Upper San Antonio Watershed is subject to a variety of climatic factors, including drought, wildfires, and flooding. In recent years, the region has experienced warmer temperatures and decreased snowpack, which has led to concerns about water availability and increased risk of wildfire. Despite these challenges, the Upper San Antonio Watershed remains an important resource for the region, providing vital water resources and supporting a wide range of economic and recreational activities.
