Watershed Hydrology

The Tomichi Watershed (HUC 14020003) is located in western Colorado and covers an area of approximately 475 square miles. The hydrology of the watershed is dominated by the Tomichi Creek, which is a tributary of the Gunnison River. The area experiences a continental climate with warm summers and cold winters, and snowpack is an important source of water for the watershed. The Tomichi Mountains, which form the eastern boundary of the watershed, receive significant amounts of snow during the winter months. The watershed also contains several reservoirs, including Blue Mesa Reservoir, which is the largest body of water in Colorado. The reservoir serves as a source of water for irrigation, recreation, and hydroelectric power generation. Interesting climatic trends in the watershed include increased temperatures and decreased snowpack, which may have significant impacts on water resources in the future.
