Watershed Hydrology

The Fremont Watershed (HUC 14070003) covers an area of approximately 2,960 square miles in western Wyoming. The hydrology of the watershed is dominated by snowmelt, which provides the majority of the surface water flow during the spring and summer months. The watershed contains several prominent mountain ranges, including the Wind River Range, which receives some of the highest snowfall in the state. The Fremont Lake reservoir is the largest body of water in the watershed and is used for irrigation, municipal water supply, and recreation. The reservoir is subject to algal blooms, which can affect water quality. In recent years, the watershed has experienced warmer temperatures and earlier snowmelt, leading to decreased snowpack and earlier peak streamflow. These trends may have implications for water availability and ecosystem health in the future.
