Montezuma
Watershed Hydrology
The Montezuma watershed covers an area of approximately 390 square miles in Colorado. It is primarily located in Summit County and includes parts of the White River and Arapaho National Forests. The watershed is characterized by high elevation mountains, with the highest peak being Quandary Peak at 14,265 feet. Hydrologically, the watershed is important as it provides water to the Blue River and ultimately the Colorado River. The snowpack in the watershed is an important source of surface water, especially during the warmer months. The water in the reservoirs in the watershed is primarily used for municipal and agricultural purposes. The area experiences cold winters and mild summers, with average annual precipitation of approximately 18 inches. Recent climate trends show an increase in temperatures and a decrease in snowpack in the area.
