Polacca Wash

Watershed Hydrology

The Polacca Wash watershed (HUC 15020013) is located in northern Arizona and covers an area of approximately 257 square miles. The hydrology of the area is dominated by the intermittent Polacca Wash, which is a tributary of the Little Colorado River. The watershed receives most of its precipitation as snow during the winter months and experiences a specific snowpack that can range from 20 to 60 inches. The surface water in the area is limited, with most of it being used for irrigation purposes. The watershed contains several small reservoirs, which are used for agricultural and municipal water supply. Interesting climatic facts include the area experiencing a monsoon season from July to September and being prone to flash floods during this time. The trends in the area include decreasing snowpack and increasing temperatures, which could have significant impacts on the availability of water resources in the future.
