Moenkopi Wash

Watershed Hydrology

The Moenkopi Wash Watershed (HUC 15020018) covers an area of approximately 1,647 square miles, located in northern Arizona. The area is primarily arid, with limited precipitation and a high evaporation rate. The watershed is characterized by a complex hydrological system, with water flows occurring underground, on the surface, and through streams and rivers. Snowpack in the watershed is variable, with some areas receiving significant snowfall while others receive little to none. Surface water is limited, with most streams and rivers drying up during the hot summer months. Reservoirs in the area are primarily used for irrigation and recreation. Climatic trends in the area include increasing temperatures and decreasing precipitation, which have led to drought conditions in recent years. Water conservation efforts are crucial to ensure the sustainability of the watershed and the communities that rely on it.
