Lower Colorado

Watershed Hydrology

The Lower Colorado Watershed (HUC 15030107), located in the southwestern United States, covers an area of approximately 101,000 square miles. The watershed is characterized by a hot and dry climate, with an average annual precipitation of around 12 inches. The main source of water in the watershed is the Colorado River, which provides surface water for agricultural and urban use. The river also supports several large reservoirs, including Lake Mead and Lake Powell. Snowpack in the watershed is relatively low, with most of the precipitation falling as rain. Average temperatures in the region have been increasing over the past few decades, leading to more frequent and severe droughts. As a result, water scarcity has become a major issue in the region, and water management practices are being implemented to ensure sustainable use of water resources.
