Brawley Wash

Watershed Hydrology

The Brawley Wash Watershed (HUC 15050304) covers an area of approximately 1,502 square miles in Southern California. The hydrology of the watershed is primarily influenced by the Colorado River and the Salton Sea. The region experiences a semi-arid climate with hot summers and mild winters. Snowpacks in the region are minimal, with occasional snowfall recorded in the higher elevations. Surface water in the watershed is limited to the Colorado River and a few small streams, which are primarily fed by runoff from the surrounding mountains. The Brawley Wash Watershed also contains several reservoirs, including the Coachella Canal and All-American Canal, which provide irrigation water to the region's agricultural fields. The water in these reservoirs contains high levels of salts and minerals, which can impact the quality of the water and the crops grown in the area. In recent years, the region has experienced a decline in precipitation, leading to increased water scarcity and competition for resources.
