Watershed Hydrology

The Carrizo Watershed, located in central California, covers approximately 1,360 square miles of land area. The hydrology of the area is heavily influenced by snowpack, which accumulates in the Sierra Nevada Mountains during the winter months and melts in the spring and summer, providing a significant source of surface water. The watershed is home to several reservoirs, including Lake Isabella and the San Luis Reservoir, which provide water for agriculture and urban areas. This water also contains a variety of constituents, including sediment, nutrients, and pollutants. Climatic trends in the Carrizo Watershed have seen an increase in average temperatures and a decrease in snowpack, which has led to a decrease in surface water availability. These changes have significant impacts on the local ecosystem, including agriculture and wildlife habitats.
