San Pitch
Watershed Hydrology
The San Pitch Watershed covers an area of approximately 1,327 square miles in central Utah. The watershed is characterized by a semi-arid climate, with most precipitation occurring as snow in the winter months. The snowpack is an important source of water for the watershed, contributing to the surface water and groundwater systems. The major surface water features within the watershed include the San Pitch River, Gunnison Reservoir, and Yuba Reservoir. The reservoirs are used for irrigation and recreation, and have been found to contain elevated levels of nutrients and algae. In recent years, the watershed has experienced drought conditions, with below-average snowpack and reduced stream flows. There has also been an increase in temperatures and a shift towards earlier snowmelt in the spring. These trends have implications for water availability, agriculture, and ecosystem health within the San Pitch Watershed.
