Watershed Hydrology

The Moyie Watershed (HUC 17010105) is located in the Kootenai River Basin in British Columbia, Canada. The watershed covers an area of approximately 620 square kilometers and has a diverse topography ranging from high mountains to lowlands. The hydrology of the watershed is characterized by cold, clear streams that provide habitat for a variety of fish species, including bull trout and westslope cutthroat trout. The watershed is also home to a unique snowpack that accumulates quickly in the wintertime due to its location in a high precipitation area. The surface water in the watershed is of high quality due to its remote location and limited development. There are no major reservoirs within the watershed, and the only significant human-made water management structures are small diversion and storage dams. Interesting climatic trends in the region include increasing temperatures and decreasing snowpack, which can have significant impacts on water availability and ecosystem health.
