Watershed Hydrology

The Duwamish Watershed, located in western Washington state, spans over 500 square miles and is home to several urban centers including Seattle. The hydrology of the watershed is heavily influenced by the snowpack in the Cascade Mountains, which provides a significant amount of surface water for the region. The watershed also includes several reservoirs that provide drinking water for the surrounding communities. In recent years, the area has experienced warmer and drier conditions, leading to a decrease in snowpack and reduced streamflow in the summer months. Additionally, the watershed has faced significant pollution challenges due to industrial and urban development. Despite these challenges, organizations and governments have been working to restore the health of the Duwamish Watershed. This includes efforts to clean up polluted areas, restore habitat for fish and wildlife, and promote sustainable land use practices.
