Watershed Hydrology

The Middle Fork Eel Watershed is located in Northern California and covers an area of approximately 1,237 square miles. The watershed is characterized by a diverse range of hydrologic features, including steep mountain slopes, numerous streams and rivers, and complex wetland systems. Snowpack is an important component of the water supply in the watershed and can impact streamflow and water availability throughout the year. The surface water in the watershed is of high quality and supports a variety of aquatic life, including several threatened and endangered species. There are no major reservoirs within the watershed, but there are several smaller impoundments that serve as important water storage facilities. The Middle Fork Eel watershed is also subject to a range of climatic conditions, including heavy rainfall in the winter months and periods of drought in the summer. In recent years, the region has experienced a trend towards warmer temperatures and more extreme weather events.
