Watershed Hydrology

The East Branch North Fork Feather Watershed covers an area of approximately 424 square miles in northeastern California. The hydrology of the watershed is dominated by the North Fork Feather River, which is the primary surface water source. The area is characterized by a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters. Snowpack is an important water source, with the majority of the snowpack occurring in the higher elevations of the watershed. The watershed contains several reservoirs, which are used for municipal and agricultural water supply. Interesting climatic trends include a decrease in snowpack in recent years, as well as an increase in temperature and drought conditions. The area is also known for its diverse plant and animal species, including the threatened Sierra Nevada red fox.
