Suisun Bay

Watershed Hydrology

The Suisun Bay Watershed (HUC 18050001) encompasses an area of approximately 1,100 square miles in California's Central Valley. The hydrology of the watershed is dominated by the Sacramento and San Joaquin Rivers, which contribute to the Bay-Delta system. The watershed receives a moderate amount of precipitation, with most occurring during the winter months. There is typically little to no snowpack in the watershed. Surface water in the Suisun Bay Watershed is used for agricultural irrigation, municipal water supply, and industrial purposes. The largest reservoir in the watershed is the Lake Berryessa Reservoir. The watershed is also home to a number of endangered and threatened species, including the delta smelt and salmon. Climate trends in the region include increasing temperatures and decreasing precipitation, which could impact water availability in the future.
