Santa Ynez

Watershed Hydrology

The Santa Ynez watershed is located in southern California and covers an area of approximately 1,060 square miles. It is characterized by a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. The hydrology of the watershed is heavily influenced by the Santa Ynez Mountains, which receive significant snowpack during the winter months. This snowpack melts in the spring and provides a significant source of surface water for the surrounding areas. The watershed is also home to several large reservoirs, including Lake Cachuma, which is a major source of drinking water for the region. Interesting climatic trends in the area include the increasing frequency and intensity of droughts, as well as the impact of climate change on snowpack levels and water availability.
