Weather Today

November 20 2024

As we look across the United States, our friends in several states are bracing for or currently experiencing natural disasters, with a wave of flood and storm warnings affecting the daily lives of many. In South Carolina, the serene flow of the Ohoopee and Edisto Rivers has been disrupted as minor flooding is both occurring and forecasted. NWS Charleston SC's advisories, effective until the wee hours of November 21, urge residents near these waterways to remain vigilant. Meanwhile, Floridians face a similar aquatic adversary as flood warnings continue for the Withlacoochee River near Holder and the St. Johns River near Astor, with NWS Tampa Bay Ruskin FL and NWS Melbourne FL highlighting ongoing concerns until late November 20 and 21, respectively.

Shifting focus to the West Coast and the far North, the tempestuous embrace of storms has prompted NWS Seattle WA and NWS Juneau AK to release storm warnings. Washington state is particularly hard-hit with powerful southeast and south winds reaching up to 50 knots, seas climbing to a treacherous 25 to 30 feet, and all eyes are on the clock until these warnings lapse later today, November 20. In Alaska, the inside waters from Dixon Entrance to Skagway are being battered by predominant winds that demand respect and caution, with advisories lasting until the evening of November 20. And in Louisiana, the Calcasieu River near White Oak Park is under a persistent flood warning, as issued by NWS Lake Charles LA, with residents monitoring water levels until well into November 24. As nature displays its formidable might, it's a collective hope that everyone stays safe, informed, and prepared to weather these adversities together.
