* WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches, with locally 1 to 2 feet along the ridgetops. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph Friday afternoon into Friday night. * WHERE...Garrett County. * WHEN...Until midnight EST Friday Night. Bursts of moderate to heavy snow will impact this evening's commute while temperatures fall well below freezing. The most widespread and heaviest snow will be late Friday morning through Friday evening with peak snowfall rates around 1 to 2 inches per hour. The strong winds will coincide with the heavy snow, making the Friday evening commute very dangerous due to snow covered surfaces and visibility below 1/4 mile at times. * IMPACTS...Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Visibilities may drop below 1/4 mile due to falling and blowing snow. Whiteout conditions are expected and will make travel treacherous and potentially life-threatening. Travel could be very difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the commutes through Friday evening. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Near blizzard conditions are possible Friday. Snow may transition to a period of freezing rain or drizzle Friday night into Saturday morning.
