Montana Points of Interest

Jackson Glacier

Jackson Glacier is one of the most popular points of interest in Montana's Glacier National Park. This glacier is situated at an elevation of 7,000 feet and covers an area of 250 acres. The glacier is named after US President Andrew Jackson.

There are several good reasons to visit Jackson Glacier. First, it offers a spectacular view of a massive glacier, which is a rare sight in the lower 48 states. Visitors can take a scenic drive along the Going-to-the-Sun Road, which offers breathtaking views of the glacier and surrounding mountains. Additionally, visitors can take a hike along any of the numerous trails in the area to get an up-close view of the glacier.

In addition to the stunning views, visitors may also be able to see a range of wildlife in the area, including grizzly and black bears, bighorn sheep, mountain goats, and elk.

Visitors should be aware that the glacier is receding due to climate change, and its size has decreased significantly over the past century. As such, it is important to visit and appreciate this natural wonder while it is still accessible.

Overall, Jackson Glacier is a must-see destination for anyone visiting Glacier National Park. Its natural beauty and unique features make it a popular spot for photographers, hikers, and nature enthusiasts alike. Get driving directions.
