About the independence river


The Independence River is a 77-mile long river in upstate New York that flows into the Black River. Historically, the river was important for transportation and logging, but today it is primarily used for recreation, including fishing, camping, and hiking. The river has a unique hydrology, with several reservoirs and dams along its length. The largest reservoir is the Stillwater Reservoir, which was created in the 1920s to provide hydroelectric power to the region.
