Rhode Island is not known as a winter sports destination, but it does have a few ski resorts that offer a fun day on the slopes. The state's primary ski area is Yawgoo Valley, located in Exeter. It's a small resort with six trails, a terrain park, and a snow tubing park. The average snowfall at Yawgoo is around 50 inches per season, with a base depth of 10-20 inches.

Another option for skiing in Rhode Island is Blue Hills Ski Area, located just outside of Boston in Canton, Massachusetts. This resort has ten trails, a terrain park, and a tubing park. The average snowfall at Blue Hills is around 42 inches per season, with a base depth of 18-36 inches.

While Rhode Island is not known for heavy snowfall or large ski resorts, it does have some interesting ski history. The first ski area in Rhode Island was opened in 1948 at Yawgoo Valley. It was the first ski area in the world to use artificial snowmaking, which revolutionized the ski industry. The technology was developed by Rhode Island native Wayne Pierce, who went on to found the snowmaking company Snow Economics.
