The river passes through the Barre Falls Dam before continuing towards its confluence with the Quaboag River. Seasonally, the river experiences fluctuations in flow due to changes in precipitation and snowmelt. Interestingly, the Ware River was once known as the "Quinapoxet River" and was renamed in the early 18th century after one of the area's early settlers, John Ware. The river has been used for hydropower generation in the past, but currently serves as a recreational resource for fishing and kayaking.
