The primary constituents of the flow are snowmelt and precipitation runoff, with occasional contributions from groundwater. There are no known dams on Clear Creek, although it is fed by several smaller tributaries, including Ash Canyon Creek and Jumbo Creek. Flow rates are highest in the spring, when snowmelt is at its peak, and lowest in the late summer and fall. Clear Creek is known for its excellent trout fishing and contains several species of native fish, including Lahontan cutthroat trout. Interesting fact: Clear Creek was named for the clarity of its water, which was said to be so pure that "one could count the pebbles on the bottom."
