The river is fed by various tributaries and constituents, including the Franconia Branch, Lincoln Brook, and Loon Pond Brook. Seasonal trends show that the river experiences high flow rates in the spring due to snowmelt and lower flow rates in the summer and fall. There are no significant dams along the river, but a small hydroelectric dam owned by the Loon Mountain Resort is located on one of its tributaries. Interestingly, the East Branch Pemigewasset River is known for its excellent trout fishing opportunities, with the river being stocked annually by the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department.
