The main constituents of the flow are precipitation and groundwater. There are no major dams on the creek, but it does have several smaller tributaries that contribute to its flow. Seasonally, the creek experiences higher flows in the spring due to snowmelt and increased precipitation. Interestingly, the creek runs through the heart of the historic Bethlehem district and played a key role in the development of the town. It was used for milling and transportation, and even inspired a poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.
