It is the largest natural freshwater in California and is fed by several streams, including Cache Creek. The lake has a long history of human habitation, and evidence of Native American settlements can be traced back 10,000 years. The lake was used for fishing, hunting, and gathering by the Pomo people. Clear Lake is also a popular spot for recreational activities such as fishing, boating and swimming. Cache Creek is an important tributary to Clear Lake and provides much of the lake's inflow. The creek is also a source of water for agricultural irrigation in the area. The hydrology of Cache Creek includes both surface flow and snowpack melt. The creek is an important source of water for the Sacramento River, which is a vital waterway for California's agricultural industry.
