Standing at a height of 34 feet and with a hydraulic height of 33 feet, the dam spans 370 feet in length and has a storage capacity of 26 acre-feet. Although primarily designed for flood control, the dam also serves multiple purposes such as fire protection, stock or small fish pond, fish and wildlife pond, grade stabilization, and recreation.
With a low hazard potential and a moderate risk assessment rating, Fair Lake Dam has not been officially rated for its condition but has been deemed to meet guidelines for emergency action preparedness. The dam features an uncontrolled spillway with a width of 10 feet and no outlet gates. While it has not been inspected in recent years, the dam's risk management measures and emergency action plan status are currently unknown. Despite its relatively low hazard potential, the dam remains a critical infrastructure for flood risk reduction in the area and plays a crucial role in managing water resources in the region.
