Camp Dam, also known as Bethel Farms Subdivision Dam or Bethel Road Dam, is a private structure located in Southampton County, Virginia. Managed by the Department of Conservation and Recreation, this earth-type dam serves primarily for recreation purposes, with a storage capacity of 80.8 acre-feet and a surface area of 16 acres. The dam stands at a height of 13 feet and stretches 300 feet in length, holding back water from a tributary to Nottoway Swamp.
Constructed by Commonwealth Engineering Group, Ltd., Camp Dam remains in good condition as it is regularly inspected and regulated by the state, with a last assessment conducted in April 2019. While its hazard potential is yet to be determined, the dam's emergency action plan status and risk assessment remain pending. Despite these uncertainties, the dam continues to provide irrigation water and recreational opportunities for the local community in Franklin, Virginia.
