The Coamo Dam, also known as Lago Coamo, is a state-owned structure located in Santa Isabel, Puerto Rico, along the Coamo River. Completed in 1914, this buttress dam stands at a height of 65 feet and serves primarily for irrigation purposes. With a storage capacity of 1380 acre-feet and a surface area of 145 acres, the dam plays a crucial role in water resource management in the region.

Managed by the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (PREPA), the Coamo Dam has a high hazard potential but is currently in satisfactory condition according to the latest assessment in August 2019. The dam features an uncontrolled spillway with a width of 595 feet, capable of discharging up to 60,000 cubic feet per second. Despite its age, the dam has undergone modifications in 1968 to enhance its hydraulic capabilities, ensuring its continued functionality and safety.

As a vital infrastructure for water supply and agricultural needs in the area, the Coamo Dam is regulated and inspected by the state authorities on a regular basis. While it poses a moderate risk due to its age and hazard potential, the dam's risk management measures and emergency preparedness are critical in ensuring the safety of surrounding communities and the sustainable utilization of water resources in Puerto Rico.
