Summary

As the new year kicks off, skiers can expect chilly but manageable temps with an overnight low of 15°F and light snow flurries in the air. Though natural snowfall has been scarce—only 0.06" forecasted in the next 72 hours and a modest 1" in the five-day outlook—Granite Peak’s extensive snowmaking system is running at full capacity to keep the slopes skiable. The current snowpack sits at 5", which is about 20% below average for this time of year, but groomers have been working overtime to keep trails in solid shape for holiday visitors.

Despite Mother Nature’s slow start, excitement is building thanks to Granite Peak’s ongoing expansion and upgrades. With a planned major development approved for Rib Mountain State Park and the recent acquisition of ski resorts in Michigan, the future is bright for Wisconsin’s largest ski destination. New outdoor seating areas and live music stages have also enhanced the après-ski experience. While snow conditions are firmer than usual, early season adventurers will still find plenty to explore on groomed trails. Pack your layers and carve into the New Year at Granite Peak!
