About the Area
The Oyasu-Onsen Ski Resort is located in the Zao Mountains in Yamagata Prefecture, Japan. The Zao Mountains are a volcanic mountain range that includes Mount Zao, which is known for its unique "snow monsters" phenomenon in winter. The ski resort offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains, including the iconic Mount Zao, as well as access to a variety of challenging ski slopes and backcountry skiing opportunities. The resort also features natural hot springs (onsen) for guests to relax in after a day on the slopes.
The resort is also home to a natural hot spring, said to have healing properties. Interestingly, the area was once a thriving silver mine during the Edo period. For beginner skiers, the "Cherry Blossom" run is recommended. For après ski, the "Bar La Montagne" offers a cozy atmosphere and a variety of drinks.
