Residents and visitors along the northern coast of Puerto Rico, including the popular beaches of Rincon to Fajardo, as well as the islands of Culebra, Saint Thomas, and Saint John, are urged to exercise extreme caution due to dangerous rip currents. The National Weather Service in San Juan has issued a Rip Current Statement effective until noon today, warning of breaking waves reaching heights of 6-7 feet. These conditions pose a serious risk, as powerful rip currents can pull even the strongest swimmers out to deeper waters, making it challenging to return to shore safely. Beachgoers are advised to stay vigilant and avoid entering the water until the statement expires.
