Summary

A wilderness permit is required; reservations are needed during peak season (May–September), and there’s no fee beyond the permit. Amenities are minimal: pit toilets are usually available, but no water, fire rings, or picnic tables—campfires are prohibited. RVs and hookups are not allowed. Nestled in a lush alpine forest beside twin lakes and surrounded by towering peaks, the scenery is serene and stunning. Accessed via a steep 7.6-mile hike, it's ideal for experienced backpackers. Best visited July–September when trails are snow-free.

Camping Essential Practices

Pack It In, Pack It Out
Take all trash, food scraps, and gear back with you to keep campsites clean and protect wildlife.
Respect Wildlife
Observe animals from a distance, store food securely, and never feed wildlife to maintain natural behavior and safety.
Know Before You Go
Check weather, fire restrictions, trail conditions, and permit requirements to ensure a safe and well-planned trip.
Minimize Campfire Impact
Use established fire rings, keep fires small, fully extinguish them, or opt for a camp stove when fires are restricted.
Leave What You Find
Preserve natural and cultural features by avoiding removal of plants, rocks, artifacts, or other elements of the environment.
