The surrounding views of the forest, creek, and mountains are breathtaking and provide a great backdrop for camping. There are several nearby points of interest such as the Columbia River Gorge, the Palouse Falls State Park, and the Little Goose Dam.
The campground amenities include picnic tables, fire pits, and vault toilets. The campground is first-come-first-serve, and there are 15 campsites available for tents and RVs.
An interesting fact about the area is that it was once a site for gold mining in the late 1800s, and remnants of the mining activities can still be seen today.
The best time to visit the Upper Clearwater State Forest camping area is in the summer months from June to August when the average temperatures range from 70°F to 85°F. The fall season is also a great time to visit, with cooler temperatures and beautiful autumn foliage. However, visitors should be aware that the campground may close during the winter months due to snowfall.
