Mount Yale

14,196 ft

Mount Yale, located in the Rocky Mountains mountain range, stands as one of the prominent peaks in Colorado, USA. With an impressive elevation of 14,196 feet (4,327 meters), it attracts mountaineers and outdoor enthusiasts from around the world. This majestic mountain is situated in the Sawatch Range, within the San Isabel National Forest.

During the winter season, Mount Yale receives a considerable amount of snowfall, making it a desirable destination for winter sports enthusiasts. The snowpack range can vary depending on the year, but it generally accumulates between 100 and 200 inches (254 to 508 centimeters). This ample snowpack provides excellent opportunities for activities such as skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing.

Mount Yale also contributes to the water sources of the region, with several creeks and rivers receiving runoff from its snowmelt. Chalk Creek, located on the eastern side of the mountain, is one such example. This water source not only sustains a diverse ecosystem but also provides recreational opportunities like fishing and kayaking.

The mountain's name, Yale, is believed to have been given by Harvard-educated members of the Hayden Survey in the late 19th century. It is said that they named the peak after their prestigious alma mater to commemorate their academic achievements. While there are no specific legends or lore associated with Mount Yale, its imposing stature and natural beauty continue to captivate adventurers seeking a challenging and awe-inspiring mountaineering experience.
