Joseph Creek is a popular white water river run in Idaho. The ideal streamflow range for this river is between 400 and 800 cubic feet per second (cfs), although some experienced kayakers may prefer higher water levels. This class III-IV river run spans approximately 10 miles, from the put-in at Joseph Creek Campground to the take-out at the Grande Ronde River. There are several notable rapids and obstacles on this run, including "Grumpy," "Satan's Eyeball," and "Tequila Falls."
It is important to note that Joseph Creek is on Nez Perce tribal land and therefore requires a permit from the tribe in order to access the river. Additionally, there are specific regulations in place to protect the natural environment and cultural resources of the area. Visitors are asked to stay on designated trails, pack out all trash, and respect any cultural or sacred sites they may encounter along the way. It is also recommended to check with the Nez Perce tribe or a local outfitter for up-to-date information on river conditions and any potential hazards.
