The ideal streamflow range for this river is between 800 to 2,500 cubic feet per second (cfs). The class rating of the Sweetwater River ranges from class III to class IV, depending on the section of the river. The river has a total segment mileage of approximately 80 miles.
One of the most notable rapids on the Sweetwater River is Devil's Gate, a class IV rapid located near mile marker 30. Other notable obstacles on the river include boulder gardens and strainers.
In terms of regulations, the Sweetwater River is located primarily on public land managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). Rafters and kayakers are required to obtain a permit from the BLM before running the river. Additionally, all boaters are required to follow Leave No Trace principles and pack out all trash.
