The river flow is influenced by seasonal trends, with peak flow occurring during the spring and low flow during the dry summer months. There are no major dams on the Republican River in this area. However, interestingly, during the 1930s the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers attempted to divert part of the flow of the Republican River to the Platte River, resulting in a legal dispute between Nebraska and Kansas. The case went all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court, which ultimately ruled in favor of Kansas.
